Catch up with our out of house expert: Ishy Khan

To mark the festive season, we have lined up an exclusive interview with Antiques Roadshow & Antiques Road Trip Jewellery Specialist, Ishy Khan @ishyantiques

Hi Ishy and Mila, we have some quick fire questions for you…

What is your favourite item of jewellery to wear?

“Well for me it has to be rings, I find them the easiest to mix and match; plus they all represent special occasions, and they are pretty difficult to lose. “

If there was no budget, what piece of jewellery would you be gifting?

“Well it depends who it’s for, if it was for Mila, I would love to opt for an Hermes Collar. OO, if there was no budget, probably something from the Cartier Panther collection. “

What is your favourite thing about antique jewellery?

“I love the fact that antique jewellery holds a history, a story. You are rescuing something from the past and giving it another life.”

What is your favourite era?

“It does actually change, it really used to be the Georgian era, but I'm leaning towards the Art Deco period at the moment, so circa 1920’s, all of those striking geometric shapes.”

What is a common mistake that you believe people make, when purchasing items of jewellery?

“I think sometimes people get a little too caught up in what the specs are on paper. There's no denying that it’s important to know what you are buying, but there are often miniature differences in the clarity or the colour that can really affect the price, so buy with your eyes, not what you see on paper. “

If you were gifting a piece of signed jewellery?

“Cartier is always a popular option, but at the moment I'm really leaning towards the Bulgari collection they have recently brought out. I’m also a real fan of the Tiffany hard wear collection”
